Ambition needs an object

Ambition on its own is restless energy.

It needs an object worthy of the effort. Otherwise, it attaches itself to comparison, titles, money, or the next visible measure of progress.

The object does not have to be grand. It has to be meaningful enough to organise sacrifice and specific enough to guide action.

I am interested in ambition that builds capacity rather than merely displays it. The kind that leaves behind a better product, a stronger institution, a useful idea, or a person more capable of contributing.

The question is not only how much we want. It is what our wanting is in service of.
