Become a beginner on purpose
Learning, focus, and mental models
Competence is comfortable. It can also become a hiding place.
When we know how to succeed in one environment, starting again feels like a loss of status. We may call it focus or experience, when the deeper issue is that we no longer want to look unskilled.
Choosing to become a beginner interrupts that pattern. It restores curiosity, exposes assumptions, and creates new sources of energy.
The goal is not to abandon accumulated skill. It is to prevent yesterday’s competence from deciding the boundaries of tomorrow’s life.
