Busyness can be emotional avoidance

Learning, focus, and mental models

Busyness is socially acceptable and emotionally convenient.

It protects us from the discomfort of choosing. If every hour is full, we do not have to ask whether the work matters. We can measure effort, answer messages, and end the day with evidence that we were needed.

The harder work is often quieter. It may involve rejecting a decent opportunity, thinking without visible output, or beginning the one project whose failure would actually hurt.

An occupied calendar can still be an empty strategy.
