Confidence can coexist with revision

Ambition, character, and personal growth

Changing your mind is often treated as evidence that the original confidence was false.

I think confidence can mean something else. It can mean trusting your ability to make the best decision available now and to revise it when better evidence arrives.

This kind of confidence is less theatrical. It does not need to defend every previous statement. Its stability comes from a process, not from always appearing correct.

The person who cannot revise a belief is not necessarily more confident. They may simply have more identity invested in the answer.
