Cosmic insignificance can be a relief
Philosophy, meaning, and society
The universe does not require most of us to become historically important.
At first, that thought can feel diminishing. I find another possibility in it: relief.
We are free to stop treating every choice as evidence for a grand destiny. A useful life can be built from smaller acts: raising a child well, creating something honest, helping a team grow, or making one corner of the world less confused.
Cosmic scale does not remove local meaning. It removes the demand that meaning must become famous before it counts.
