Democracy should feel complicated

Centralised systems can look efficient because disagreement is hidden or suppressed.

Democracy is slower and noisier. It distributes authority, exposes conflict, and creates multiple ways to challenge the centre. The friction can feel like failure when compared with the apparent simplicity of command.

But some complexity is the visible cost of correction.

A system that assumes everyone is fallible must allow decisions to be questioned, reversed, and improved. That process will never look perfectly tidy.

The mess is not always evidence that democracy is broken. Sometimes it is evidence that no one has been granted permanent ownership of the truth.
