Excellence without proportion becomes damage

The pursuit of excellence can justify almost anything if it is never asked to respect proportion.

Every task becomes urgent. Every flaw becomes unacceptable. Other people are expected to carry the same intensity, regardless of context or cost.

I know the attraction of this mindset. High standards have created many of the outcomes I value. They have also made me impatient when a slower, more human response would have produced better work and a better relationship.

Excellence matters. So does knowing where excellence is required, what it should cost, and who is being asked to pay.
