We explain ourselves by intentions and others by actions

Psychology and human behaviour

When I make a mistake, I can see the pressure, the incomplete information, and the good intention behind it.

When someone else makes the same mistake, I see the action.

This asymmetry is responsible for an extraordinary amount of unnecessary judgement. We experience our own context from the inside and other people’s behaviour from the outside.

The correction is not to excuse everything. It is to become curious before becoming certain.

What information might I be missing? Which constraint would make this behaviour more understandable?

Understanding context does not remove accountability. It improves the quality of it.
