Limits create meaning

A choice matters because another possibility is surrendered.

If time were unlimited, no commitment would carry urgency. Every neglected relationship could be repaired later. Every meaningful project could begin tomorrow.

Our limits are painful, but they are also what give weight to attention. Choosing one person, one problem, or one path says that this deserves a portion of a life that cannot be recovered.

Finitude is not only the tragedy of being human. It is part of the structure that makes a human life meaningful.
