Optionality can become avoidance

Building and entrepreneurship

Keeping options open feels intelligent. Sometimes it is simply a sophisticated way of postponing commitment.

Every serious project closes other paths. That is not a flaw in the decision. It is what gives the decision weight.

Entrepreneurs often celebrate optionality because uncertainty is real. But a company cannot be built entirely from reversible choices. At some point, a market, product, or belief needs enough commitment to reveal what it can become.

The goal is not to eliminate options. It is to notice when preserving them is costing more than choosing one.
