The story changes the experience
Psychology and human behaviour
We do not experience events directly. We experience events through an interpretation.
The same physical sensation can feel like anxiety or excitement. A difficult project can become evidence of inadequacy or proof that the work is meaningful. The facts matter, but the frame changes what the facts do inside us.
This is not an argument for positive thinking detached from reality. Some situations are genuinely bad.
It is a reminder that interpretation is part of the causal chain. The story we attach to an experience can alter attention, behaviour, and even what becomes possible next.
